Premium Private Pilot Program At Van Nuys Airport

Forty hours in the Cirrus SR22 Turbo, at $22,500

You finish with the identical certificate every other program on this store produces. What differs is the airplane: turbocharged, glass-panelled, and carrying a parachute for the whole airframe. It is the most expensive route to that certificate and it is right for a narrow set of people.

Who this program is genuinely right for

Someone who owns an SR22 or is about to. Someone whose flying will be long cross-country trips in a fast single from the day the checkride ends. Someone with a specific reason to be current in this type rather than a preference for the nicer airplane.

For those readers it is the efficient choice, because the alternative is earning a certificate in one type and then buying transition training into another.

Who it is wrong for, which is most people

If your reason for wanting this program is that the airplane is nicer, buy the $15,900 Comprehensive program instead and put the difference toward an instrument rating. We will say that in the consultation and we will say it again if you push.

A glass panel presents information already assembled. That is a real advantage to an experienced pilot and a real handicap to a new one, because the scan you build when a machine has done the interpreting is a weaker scan, and it has to be rebuilt later at your expense. Forty hours is also fewer hours than most students need, and forty hours in the most complex airframe on the ramp is a demanding way to spend them.

What you get that the other programs do not

Type-specific training in an airframe with a CAPS whole-airframe parachute, which introduces a decision that does not exist in other light singles: when to use it. That is a briefing, a procedure and a set of altitudes, and it is taught properly here rather than mentioned.

Turbocharging, which is more relevant at Van Nuys than in most of the country. The field sits at 802 ft and performs like roughly 4,100 ft on a hot September afternoon, and 14 CFR 91.103 makes that calculation a duty of the pilot in command before every flight.

Buying a glass-cockpit program before you have soloed is usually the wrong order.

Standards, published rather than claimed

  • The fleet is bought, not borrowed. Six types, one owner, one maintenance program, and an inspection interval set by 14 CFR 91.409(b) because these airplanes teach for hire.
  • The instructing staff numbers eleven. Three credentials are required of every one of them: a flight instructor certificate, an ATP or a commercial certificate behind it, and a medical that has not lapsed.
  • There is an FAA-approved Redbird MCX on site, on a motion base and closed in. A session on its own is $189, and no session has ever been lost to weather.
  • NOAA ASOS records for this field give 355 training days in the year ending 1 August 2026, tested against 3,000 ft and 5 sm with four qualifying daytime hours needed before a day counts.
  • What you enroll at is what is published. We do not run block rates and we do not negotiate, which is what makes a fixed price mean anything.
  • Part 61, stated plainly. The curriculum, the prices and the hours are published; a pass rate and a graduate count are not, because there is no honest one to print yet.
