Terms Of Service

These Terms govern your use of flightschool.la and your purchase of any service from Airline Pilot Flight School at Van Nuys Airport. They are written to be read before you pay rather than after, and they say plainly which document controls if two of them ever disagree.

What These Terms Do, And What They Do Not Do

These Terms are the frame. Three shorter documents sit inside that frame and carry the detail: the Return and Refund Policy, the Discovery Flight Terms and Conditions, and the Privacy Policy. Each forms part of these Terms.

The single term most people want first is this one: all sales are final, and instead of a refund your purchase is transferable to another person, free of charge, with at least 48 hours written notice. Nothing you buy from us expires. If we cancel for weather or maintenance, you reschedule at no cost. The full working of that is set out in the Return and Refund Policy.

These Terms do not replace anything you sign. A training agreement, a release of liability or any other document you put your name to before flying is the governing document for the thing it covers, and where a signed document conflicts with this page, the signed document controls.

Nothing here asks you to give up a right the law gives you, and where California law says a term cannot be enforced, it is not enforced. Section 10 says so explicitly rather than leaving it to be inferred.

Sections 1 To 3

What We Do, Who Can Fly, And How You Pay

1. What We Do

Airline Pilot Flight School is a flight training school. We provide flight instruction, ground instruction, training in a Redbird MCX advanced aviation training device, and additional flight time for enrolled students. Our flights — including Discovery Flights and introductory flight lessons — are instructional flights conducted by FAA-certificated flight instructors.

We are not an air carrier, charter operator or sightseeing tour operator, and we do not carry persons or property for hire. Anyone who flies with us does so as a student receiving flight instruction, or as an observer accompanying a student.

2. Eligibility

Certain training is subject to TSA and FAA eligibility requirements, which are set by federal law and are outside our control. We cannot waive them and neither can you.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to book, purchase or enter into an agreement with us.
  • Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who must sign all releases on their behalf.
  • Children under 5 cannot be carried on our aircraft.
  • Valid government-issued photo identification is required. Non-U.S. participants must present a valid passport.

3. Booking, Pricing And Payment

Every course price on this site is published as a single figure. No figure is a range, no figure is withheld pending an enquiry, and there is no separate quote available to somebody who asks for one.

  • Prices, schedules and aircraft availability are subject to change without notice. The price shown when you book is the price you pay.
  • Payment is generally collected at the time of booking. Payments are processed by third-party payment processors; we never store your full card number.
  • You represent that you are authorized to use the payment method you provide.
  • Aircraft assignments may change for maintenance, weather or scheduling reasons.
Sections 4 To 6

Refunds, Safety And The Risk You Accept

4. All Sales Are Final

All payments made to Airline Pilot Flight School are non-refundable. Purchases may instead be transferred to another person, free of charge, with at least 48 hours written notice. Gift certificates and unused prepaid credit do not expire.

The full terms — including cancellations, no-shows, weight requirements, transfers and chargebacks — are set out in our Return and Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms. Discovery Flights are additionally governed by our Discovery Flight Terms and Conditions.

5. Safety, Weight Limits And The Right To Refuse Service

Aviation safety is not negotiable.

Where a flight cannot proceed for any of these reasons, the booking is charged and forfeited as described in the Return and Refund Policy.

  • The pilot in command has final authority over every flight, including whether it is safe to fly, the route flown, and whether any person may board.
  • Every aircraft has FAA-certificated weight-and-balance limits which we cannot exceed. Published limits appear on the relevant booking page and in our Discovery Flight Terms and Conditions. Weight may be verified on arrival, and a person who exceeds the published limit cannot be flown.
  • We may refuse service to any person for any lawful reason, including intoxication, impairment, unsafe or abusive conduct, or a determination that the person is unfit to fly.
  • Every participant must sign our Release of Liability before flying.

6. Assumption Of Risk

Flight training involves inherent and significant risks, including risks of serious injury and death, which cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken. By booking and participating, you acknowledge those risks. The full scope of the risks, and the releases you give, are set out in the Release of Liability you sign before flying. Those documents control in the event of any conflict with these Terms.

We do not warrant that Site content is accurate, complete or current. Course descriptions, pricing, timelines and availability may change. Nothing on the Site is a guarantee of training outcome, certification, checkride result, job placement, or FAA or TSA eligibility — those depend on federal authorities and on your own performance.

Sections 10 And 11

Limitation Of Liability And Indemnification

10. Limitation Of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by California law, and except as stated in the paragraph below:

  • Airline Pilot Flight School and its owners, instructors, employees, contractors and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, including loss of profit, revenue, data or business opportunity, arising from your use of the Site or our services.
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Site or a service you purchased is limited to the amount you actually paid us for that service.

Important — What We Do Not Limit

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, for willful injury to a person or property, for gross negligence, or for any violation of law — consistent with California Civil Code § 1668. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case those limitations do not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Airline Pilot Flight School and its owners, instructors, employees and contractors from any claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, your violation of any law or FAA or airport regulation, or your violation of the rights of any third party.

Sections 17 To 19

Changes, Accessibility And General Provisions

17. Changes To These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The last updated date above will change when we do. Continued use of the Site or our services after an update means you accept the revised Terms. The version of the Terms in effect when you booked governs that booking.

18. Accessibility

We want this Site to be usable by everyone. If you have difficulty accessing any part of it, or need information in another format, please call or text us on (747) 688-9988, or write to us through the contact form, and we will work with you to provide what you need.

19. General

  • Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest remain in full force.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Return and Refund Policy, the Discovery Flight Terms and Conditions, the Privacy Policy, and any training agreement or liability release you sign, form the entire agreement between us. Where a signed agreement or release conflicts with these Terms, the signed document controls.
Terms Questions

Common Questions About These Terms

No. All sales are final. Instead of a refund, your purchase is transferable to another person free of charge with at least 48 hours written notice, and nothing you buy from us expires. The full working of that is in the Return and Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Anything you signed. A training agreement or a release of liability you put your name to controls over this page for the thing it covers. Below that, the Return and Refund Policy and the Discovery Flight Terms and Conditions carry the detail these Terms summarise.

To book, purchase or enter into the agreement, yes. To fly, no. A participant under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who signs every release on their behalf. Children under 5 cannot be carried on our aircraft.

No, and we do not hold it out as one. It is an introductory flight lesson given by an FAA-certificated flight instructor. You fly the airplane under instruction, the time is loggable in your name, and we are not an air carrier or a charter operator.

We cannot fly you, because the limit is set by the aircraft's certification and not by us. Weight may be verified on arrival. Please check the published limit on the booking page before you pay, and call us on (747) 688-9988 first if you are close to one.

In the state or federal courts of Los Angeles County, California, under California law. These Terms contain no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver, so nothing here moves a dispute out of court.

Not the ones that cannot be limited. Section 10 excludes fraud, willful injury, gross negligence and any violation of law from every limitation in this document, consistent with California Civil Code section 1668, and says so in terms rather than leaving it to be inferred.

We can change them for the future, and the last updated date shows when we did. The version in effect on the day you booked governs that booking, so a later change does not reach backwards into something you have already paid for.
