What A Young Student Actually Does In The Airplane
Flies it. Hands on the controls, climbing, turning, holding a heading, talking through what the airplane is doing and why. Takeoffs and landings belong to the instructor, who also holds legal command of the aircraft for the whole flight. That is a regulatory fact rather than a formality.
Ground instruction is pitched at the age rather than watered down. The physics of why a wing works does not get simpler for a twelve-year-old, but the order you teach it in does.
The Thing To Be Clear About Before You Buy
A student in this age range cannot solo. The FAA sets a minimum age for a student pilot certificate and for solo flight in an airplane, and everybody in this program is below it. Every hour is flown with an instructor aboard.
That is not a limitation of the package, it is the law, and any program implying otherwise for a child of this age is describing something that cannot happen. What the hours do is count: they are logged, signed, and they sit in the logbook waiting for the day a certificate becomes possible.
Whether This Is A Good Use Of The Money
For a young person who is genuinely interested, yes. Logged dual instruction at fourteen is time that never has to be flown again, and the habits built early with a professional instructor are better habits than the ones built late.
For a young person who is politely interested because an adult is, no. Buy a single lesson first and find out. That is $229 and it answers the question honestly.
Buy one lesson before you buy a package. Enthusiasm at the airport gate is not the same as enthusiasm at hour six.
What The Parents Should Know We Can Prove
- Six airframes sit on this ramp and the school owns all six outright. Nothing is brokered in, nothing is on leaseback, and the shop that services them is ours.
- Eleven on the instructing roster. All of them fly on a commercial certificate or an ATP, all of them teach on a CFI, and none of them instruct on an expired medical.
- Whoever occupies the right seat holds the legal command of the aircraft on these flights. It is a regulatory position rather than a courtesy title.
- Procedure work happens in the Redbird MCX rather than in an airplane, because it is cheaper and because it can be stopped and rewound. $189 a session standalone.

The assessment flight is the first hour of the syllabus and a two-way evaluation. You fly it from the left seat with an instructor beside you, they write down what they saw, and you get an honest read on whether the plan is realistic. It is loggable, and it is credited in full against enrolment if you enroll within 24 hours.
