Where the time goes in a twin
Two of everything means the flows take longer, and they take longer for a good reason. Start, run-up, gear, propeller checks and a departure briefing consume a real share of any booking in this airplane before the wheels leave the ground.
Ninety minutes puts a full airwork block on the other side of that: climb, cruise, turns, a descent planned rather than improvised, and a gear-and-flap sequence into the pattern that you configure yourself while the instructor watches you do it.
Who books this rather than the hour
Private pilots deciding whether to add the multi-engine rating, and career-track students working out where the $5,100 add-on sits in their sequence. Ninety minutes gives you enough of the workload picture to make that call.
If you have never flown a light aircraft at all, this is the wrong first flight. Start with the single at $229 and come back to the twin later.
The honest read on multi-engine time
Twin time is expensive per hour and there is no way around that. What makes it worth buying is the rating attached to it, not the hours themselves. General experience is cheaper to build, and better built, in a single: $179 the hour, wet, for anyone enrolled.
Buy twin time for the rating. Do not buy it to build hours.
Verifiable standards
- Six types, all owned here, all maintained here. When an airplane is due for the 100-hour inspection that 14 CFR 91.409(b) demands of a trainer, it comes off the line and gets one.
- Instructing staff: eleven. Credentials, without exception: a flight instructor certificate, a commercial certificate or an ATP behind it, and a medical in date.
- One simulator, and it is a good one: an FAA-approved Redbird MCX, enclosed cockpit, motion base. Booked on its own it costs $189.
- Weather costs a full-time student roughly ten days a year here. NOAA ASOS records put 355 days above 3,000 ft and 5 sm in the twelve months ending 1 August 2026.
